Shimelle's sketch of the week

This is my interpretation of Shimelle's sketch of the week for 17th August 2011

This is the sketch ~

I took these photos from the Crantock Bay hotel (where I was working ) - the sky was not quite as red as this...I set the camera on auto and this was the result...rather dramatic, don't you think!!
I chose to accent in turquoise to contrast with the red and orange of the photos.

Inspired by Shimelle's 'Bingo cards and butterflies' layout

Too late to be entered into Shimelle's challenge but I liked the tutorial she gave for this layout, so I decided to give it a go anyway !

Shimelle used a real photo booth strip of photos in her layout and highlighted the one photo she liked the best. As I didn't have a 'strip' I made my own - I inked round the edges of the individual photos to make it look like they are all in one! And I made the one I like the most a little bit bigger than the rest - sort of gives it a magnifying effect!

Shimelle's Online Scrapbook Weekend - Starting point challenge

This afternoon I have completed another of Shimelle's Online Scrapbooking Weekend challenges.

This time I have done the 'Starting Point' challenge. Shimelle gave us a sort of sketch but it was the start of a layout she had done. The challenge was to use her 'Starting Point' as a starting place for our pages.
This was Shimelle's 'Starting Point'
This is my 'Starting Point'

And this is my finished page  --- >

The journalling reads:

In Kansas you can hear the trains long before you see them. Will and I waited in vain at this level crossing hoping to see the train that we could hear!

To see all Shimelle's challenges go to her blog here  but hurry the challenges close at midnight tonight, although the sketch of the week is open till Tuesday

Shimelle's Online Scrapbook Weekend - 1/2 page challenge

This is the layout I created for Shimelle's 1/2 page challenge.

This was my 2nd attempt - I didn't like the page I first started so I went back to the beginning and started over.

Me, James and Will at The Hawk (the Kansas University bar!) on James 21st birthday.
The picture was taken by James' friend Kelsey.
On FB the caption reads " Looks like I picked up a couple of drunks"  !!!

Shimelle's challenge can be found here - but hurry the dealines ends at midnight tonight !!

Shimelle's Online Scrapbook Weekend - Signature Accent challenge

Another offering for Shimelle's online scrapbooking weekend
This challenge was easy for me, although I had trouble deciding which photo I was going to scrap and what colours to use, because I have made alcohol inks and 'ring-pulls' a bit of a signature on quite a few layouts now :)

Once I had picked the photo, yes, I always chose the photo first, it was then a matter of chosing papers to compliment it. Of course the page had to include my 'pie case' cogs too!

The papers are mainly Bo Bunny Block Party ( a favourite :) ) with a strip of Basic Grey at the top. The swirls are 3 blues, gold, silver and copper and a touch of red alcohol inks. For the cogs and ring-pulls I used just 'sail boat blue' and 'red pepper'.

The journalling reads "Nick on the merry-go-round at Chyverton Steam Engine Rally. He was too small to go on the bigger rides but loved this! "

Shimelle's Online Scrapbook Weekend - I 'heart' .... layout

This is my 2nd post today because I managed to complete another page for Shimelle's Online Scrapbooking weekend. For this challenge we were asked to create a page with ' I <3 ....' in the title.

So this is it :

The journalling is hidden this time !
I adore the colours of the alcohol inks on the tag :)  It is much more gold IRL!
and on the back it says "We took 3 separate cars - well, hey it is America!!"

Grid it up challenge

Continuing with Shimelle's fun weekend - yes I know it's Wednesday...but the challenges are open till Sunday!! - today's offering is for the "Grid it up Challenge" here !!

Here is my LO
WOW - Will you look at all that journalling (think it's working, Shimelle :) )

It reads - In March 2011 my friend Kathy took me on a Jayhawk Hunt! I had seen one or two of these fibreglass statues around Lawrence but Kathy told me that there were more and offered to take me to find some! Originally commissioned by the Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau these 5' tall Jayhawks appeared around the city during 2003 KU's basketball "March Madness" ! There are still several more to find!!

I really enjoyed this challenge. I had all these photos of the Jayhawks and have been waiting for a LO idea to show them off :)

More 'Explore' - End of Week 2 !!

Today I completed my project for the end of week 2!!

Scrapbook page - Lunch Date

I used a bit of creative license and put together photos from 2 different years!! (I know shock, horror  :D) The bottom photo is my 'lunch date' with my 3 sons at The Eldridge in Downtown Lawrence on James' 21st birthday while the other 2 were taken last year from the doorway of The Eldridge, so they do really go together. I also used an old photo of newspaper boxes to make embellishments. I've been wondering how to bring these into a page or a while - I love their bright colours and they are so American. I also made a tag from a map of Kansas.

Oh and the middle 'street' photo is inked round the edges and mounted on foam pads to make it stand out from the other 2.

I messed up the writing on the journalling so I had to cover it up with a sticker!! But it's not too bad and hopefully no-one will notice :D

Explore - Memory Sparks and Photos as embellishments - Just a quickie !!

I've added a few more pages to my playbook -

I wrote down one memory sparked by 2 boys with buckets knocking on my door on Sunday asking to wash my car..
We also had to re-size some photos and make and old  look frame round them to replicate the look of old viewfinders! I couldn't find anything similar so I ended up inking the edge of the photo. I quite like the result :)

Writing reads "this is Peevor Tin mine museum nr Redruth, Cornwall"
{What a view?}

And here Shimelle challenged us to write on our photos. I was a bit apprehensive about this (probably a hang-up from the old days when photos were precious special occasion memories) but actually I loved the way the pen wrote on the glossy paper and I think the result is quite effective.

Explore - Extra Layout using circle embellishments

Hi I just thought I would share this layout I did for the sketch challenge at a Scrap Angels crop on Friday night.  I decided to use Shimelle's cluster of embellishments again as I liked how the first one had worked. I started off with 6 but I was not happy with the way it looked -

So I finished it at home adding the jigsaw pieces and 3 more circle embellishments. I also highlighted the title and added some stitching. Now I am much happier with it :)
