Album through the Year - August

Here is my double page for August.
The photos are all of Falmouth this month - I had a lovely day there, just wandering around....and .........there's now a KFC on The Moor, so of course I had to stop there for a Toasted Twister Meal - yummy!!!

L-R - Pendennis Castle, Falmouth Maritime Museum and The Moor
These are the two pages..

I used a Scrap Angels kit  :)

Then there are more photos underneath on the LH page

Close-ups of the photos

And this is the shaker detail on the bottom of the RH side

I have always loved Falmouth - I love the closeness of the sea but in a different way to being on the beach. It is always busy with sailboats and big ships -
These guys were painting the side ....

of this ship.....

with rollers !!!!!!

And I loved the shadow of this crane on the side of this big ship:-)

Shimelle's sketch of the week

This is my interpretation of Shimelle's sketch of the week for 17th August 2011

This is the sketch ~

I took these photos from the Crantock Bay hotel (where I was working ) - the sky was not quite as red as this...I set the camera on auto and this was the result...rather dramatic, don't you think!!
I chose to accent in turquoise to contrast with the red and orange of the photos.

Shimelle's sketch can be found on her blog here

Inspired by Shimelle's 'Bingo cards and butterflies' layout

Too late to be entered into Shimelle's challenge but I liked the tutorial she gave for this layout, so I decided to give it a go anyway !

Shimelle used a real photo booth strip of photos in her layout and highlighted the one photo she liked the best. As I didn't have a 'strip' I made my own - I inked round the edges of the individual photos to make it look like they are all in one! And I made the one I like the most a little bit bigger than the rest - sort of gives it a magnifying effect!

Shimelle's Online Scrapbook Weekend - Starting point challenge

This afternoon I have completed another of Shimelle's Online Scrapbooking Weekend challenges.

This time I have done the 'Starting Point' challenge. Shimelle gave us a sort of sketch but it was the start of a layout she had done. The challenge was to use her 'Starting Point' as a starting place for our pages.
This was Shimelle's 'Starting Point'
This is my 'Starting Point'

And this is my finished page  --- >

The journalling reads:

In Kansas you can hear the trains long before you see them. Will and I waited in vain at this level crossing hoping to see the train that we could hear!

To see all Shimelle's challenges go to her blog here  but hurry the challenges close at midnight tonight, although the sketch of the week is open till Tuesday

Shimelle's Online Scrapbook Weekend - 1/2 page challenge

This is the layout I created for Shimelle's 1/2 page challenge.

This was my 2nd attempt - I didn't like the page I first started so I went back to the beginning and started over.

Me, James and Will at The Hawk (the Kansas University bar!) on James 21st birthday.
The picture was taken by James' friend Kelsey.
On FB the caption reads " Looks like I picked up a couple of drunks"  !!!

Shimelle's challenge can be found here - but hurry the dealines ends at midnight tonight !!

Shimelle's Online Scrapbook Weekend - Signature Accent challenge

Another offering for Shimelle's online scrapbooking weekend
This challenge was easy for me, although I had trouble deciding which photo I was going to scrap and what colours to use, because I have made alcohol inks and 'ring-pulls' a bit of a signature on quite a few layouts now :)

Once I had picked the photo, yes, I always chose the photo first, it was then a matter of chosing papers to compliment it. Of course the page had to include my 'pie case' cogs too!

The papers are mainly Bo Bunny Block Party ( a favourite :) ) with a strip of Basic Grey at the top. The swirls are 3 blues, gold, silver and copper and a touch of red alcohol inks. For the cogs and ring-pulls I used just 'sail boat blue' and 'red pepper'.

The journalling reads "Nick on the merry-go-round at Chyverton Steam Engine Rally. He was too small to go on the bigger rides but loved this! "
